Both Dikes, Connector trails, and Fort Rutledge (south) |
Yes, its the ever popular Dikes, a common running spot for all. This is a great place to run even though its popular. The above map contains every trail in the dike area, including Fort Rutledge (at the bottom). The two dikes are both beautiful to run across in good or bad weather. They are nice and flat, and they even have a convenient trail system connecting them. Each of the dikes is accessible through a gate. I will spare you a detailed description of these trails, but I will give you a little tip about the Fort Rutledge trail. This is a tough trail! That being said, if you are like me and you love running tough trails, go a head and give it a try. If you are just out running for exercise I don't recommend it. The trail basically winds through the woods in between the second dike and the Madren Center Inn and Golf course for about .5 miles. Its a good little trail, not the best maintained but it is definitely enjoyable. There is even a nice little memorial where the fort (supposedly) was located during the American Revolution.
